Downsize Negativity

downsize negativityDownsize negativity? What’s that? And how does it fit with downsizing possessions? Well, with all that’s been going on in the world these days, we can see how some disasters claim our possessions, and it’s very easy to become negative and depressed about everything. And that can spill over into our personal lives as well. It can even disrupt family life.

All we need to do is listen to the daily news and weather reports or watch just about any TV show to see disasters, natural or otherwise and gratuitous violence that helps no-one.

What are the solutions to help rid ourselves of the negativity these produce? Here are a few:

  1. Be selective in your consumption of TV shows and other “entertainment”. Choose to be uplifted rather than brought down, preferably shows and events with a comedy component. As you know, laughter heals many pains and can go a long way to banish negativity. Or at least downsize it.
  2. Avoid overconsumption of news on any platform, especially the all-day news channels on TV. If it’s that important, someone will tell you. You don’t need images of carnage seared onto your memory. There are ways of knowing what’s going on in the world without being submerged in it. Here I also include long discussions about what one world leader or another “should” do/have done. They aren’t listening to our advice nor do they care what we think. Why waste energy like this?
  3. Prepare for the possibility of a disaster in your own area, but don’t get caught up in consuming every detail about the ones that have already happened elsewhere. I’m not saying to ignore them because they might provide lessons we can use to avoid being caught the same way.

If you see opportunities to help, by all means do so, just don’t become so wrapped up in the details that they affect you negatively.

It’s also possible that you can’t do anything about them. In this case, replaying the negativity and fear won’t help you in the slightest.

Of course, if the disaster is in your own area, it’s important to be in the information loop as much as possible to help yourself and your family as well as others around you. To learn about emergency preparedness, check out my free report about this.

What are your thoughts on this subject? Have you ever been caught in any kind of disaster? How did you handle it? What would you do differently?

I’d love to hear about it. Please join the conversation in the comments box below…
